Trail Ramblings: De-mystify The Winter Commute.

Do you have a commuting question? Would you like to meet other bicycle commuters? This Friday November 20* (correction!) is your chance. Come to Ploughshare Brewing Co. at 1630 “P” St. from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. for a meet and greet and to get your questions answered. We will not have a formal program, but there will be plenty of experience in the room.

When I began winter commuting I barely knew of anyone else who did it, and didn’t know much about what to expect or how to prepare. It was an experiment for me. I had to learn everything the hard way it seemed, and made every mistake, but you don’t have to.
Here is something else to keep in mind this week; rifle hunting season started yesterday. If you ride out of the city, wear bright colors. The Oak Creek Trail from Valparaiso to Brainard, as well as the Steamboat Trace and likely others, are closed until November 22.

As for city trails, I will re-post the following:
Updates on some projects around town: Both the Billy Wolff and the Rock Island (at Sheridan) are due to be done by the end of this month. The Rock Island by the Zoo is anticipated to be open mid Dec. There are plans for LES to upgrade and increase lighting under the 27th St tunnel by increasing the number of fixtures and change to LED with a brighter/whiter light. And last the N Street bike-way is still planned to be open by November 29th with a grand ceremony planned for this spring, around Earth Day.
In the meantime, enjoy the warm November temperatures while they last!
