Half Way There

We just passed the half way point for the 2013 National Bike Challenge. Right off the bat at the start of the Challenge, May 1st, Lincoln had a strong showing and we are still claiming a strong second place for class one cites, just a few points behind first place Madison WI. We have 1040 registered riders with 867 actively logging miles. Nationally we have a top five rider, two teams in the top fifty, […]

Wilderness needs your help!

The Lincoln Parks and Recreation budget is in need of restoration in order to keep up with the maintenance of Wilderness Park.  As of now, Wilderness Park is mowed only twice a year.  With the budget restored Parks and Rec would be able to mow it 4 times a year.  It does not seem like much but it would be a considerable improvement for the park and the many Lincoln residents who enjoy everything wilderness […]

Guest blog: Rise to the Challenge

Halfway through the National Bike Challenge, Lincoln’s residents are doing a great job of logging miles. We checked in with one rider, Michaella Kumke, who has been posting daily updates on her journey. It’s an inspiring one! Have a story to share? Contact us! -Elisabeth Rise to the Challenge by Michaella Kumke The trails were slushy and sloppy after an overnight, dusting of snow. It wasn’t more than an inch of accumulation, but did I […]

NYC Bike Share program starts today!

The New York Times reflects on Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s vision of relieving congestion in the city with non-traditional tactics such as a bike share program.   Over 350 miles of bike lanes have been added to NYC to accommodate the bicyclists.  Only time will tell if the program is successful. What about a Lincoln bike share program?  Would you utilize a bike share if Lincoln were to invest in one? On Eve of Bike Sharing […]

The wide world of bicycle riders

When I arrive in Costa Rica I see almost zero bicycles. This is a country whose relative economic and political stability have yet to translate into much bikeable infrastructure. Highways are no more than two lanes wide and have no shoulder. The rare cyclist that does take to the highways does so at his/her great peril. Because of this, mountain biking is the predominant form of two-wheeled, human-powered adventuring. In San Ramón it would be confusing […]
