Downtown Master Plan Update
Notes from the March 20th meeting with Portland-based consultants Cramball Arambula: The timeframe for these updates contains a series of meetings and public forums in May, culminating in a City Council Public Hearing in June for finalization, at which time the plans would be adopted as part of the Downtown Master Plan. This means that we are right near the end of the process now. This does not mean, however, that the plans will be […]

Update on LB1030 via Omaha Bikes
Via Omaha Bikes – LB1030: We were thrilled to learn that Sen. Tom Hansen from North Platte had introduced a bill in the Nebraska Legislature that would require motorists to give at least 3 feet of space when passing cyclists, pedestrians, and those operating motorized wheelchairs on the road. An impressive group of cyclists from Omaha and Lincoln came together on February 6 to testify in favor of the bill in front of the Transportation […]

Senate Preparing to Vote on New Transportation Bill
Via bikeleague.org: The Bike Apocalypse (A-bike-alypse?) will not come…yet. We were fearful when the new transportation bill (MAP-21) failed to include any of the funding traditionally made available for pedestrian and bicycle transportation, but the support that was relayed to Senators from across the country has had the desired effect: the Cardin-Cochran amendment will restore funding of bicycling and walking to the bill. Some 50,000 sent messages to their Senators. Check the League of American […]

"Build it, and they will come."
A 6-minute mini-documentary tells the story of how the Dutch acquired their famous network of urban bicycle paths. Sequence of events: 1. Primarily pedestrian and bicycle traffic (early 1900s) 2. Booming economy = more cars + more sprawl + more roads = high pedestrian/cyclist fatality rate (middle 1900s) 3. Protests + Economic crisis = Bicycling returns (late 1900s) Click through and check the link.
